Chapter 2 Recap
An individual's reputation is the most valuable item that one "holds." Although it is intangible, it can be measured. It is measured everyday through our actions and words which reveal who we truly are. In the online world, we present our own personal brand through our actions in the physical and electronic world. Our personal brand helps differentiate ourselves from others in an assortment of ways. Our own unique characteristics begin to separate ourselves, but our reputation is what makes us unique.
For an individual to find their personal brand they can follow nine steps. The first step is to understand their own target audience or in other words, who they want to work for or connect with. This step helps an individual to understand their own strengths that they can bring to the table. The next step is one of the most important and it is determining your purpose. Action without purpose is ultimately worthless, and this also goes with your personal brand. An individual's purpose is how one will accomplish their vision. In doing so, an individual needs to understand their values and passions, which are steps three and four. After reflecting on these first four steps, I realize how simple it can be to find direction in where you want your personal brand to go. Although it is simple, it does not mean it is easy.
The next two steps consist of determining goals and brand attributes. Brand attributes are words or phrases that an individual would describe their brand. It is also what an individual aspires for their peers to use when describing their brand. Goals are similar to purpose and vision, as it is easy to write on what one wants, but difficult to be consistent and achieve it. A brand is built on steps one through four, but is maintained through steps five and six.
The final phase of steps include creating a strength, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. This is where one can design a plan for how to use their personal brand. By finding these attributes, they can understand more of how to use their brand. Step eight is finding your competition through media sites. The final step is figuring out three words to determine your personal brand. These three words should be reminders for ones self to live by. Not only will this make an individual honest, but it also will protect their reputation.
Some final tips for your personal brand journey would be to initiate a personal brand audit. Simply look through web platforms and search up your name. Figure out how your personal brand looks today and solve how you want it to look for the future. Once you have that done, build your brand through platforms like LinkedIn.
Now you are fully equipped to create a personal brand of your liking.
Hello, I found your interpretation of the social media SWOT analysis to be rather inadequate and breif. The attributes are integral to the process, as they allow an understanding of your position within the social media sphere. Do you believe that these attributes work together in any way?
ReplyDeleteHello there. Social media is a very complex medium to mauver through, so taking it step by step is important to achieve success. Above all else though I believe uniqueness like you said is the key to social media success. If you are unique you can pull ahead of others competing for the same "real estate" online. Companies have to do this same thing. The difference with them though is that their success is a determining factor in how much money they earn. If their campaign fails their company could loose a large amount of money.
ReplyDeleteNext time, I'd recommend elaborating more on the points than recapping them.
